Hot Science – Cool Talks is presented by the Environmental Science Institute (ESI). This nationally recognized outreach series has been providing a means for leading researchers from the University of Texas and other prominent universities to communicate their research to the public in general and the K-12 educational community in particular since 1999. The events feature various STEM topics, attract hundreds of attendees each time, and are held six times each academic year. Hot Science – Cool Talks presentations are much more than just lectures. They are immersive educational experiences with:
Interactive Community Science Fairs filled with engaging activities. Our fairs are something the whole family can enjoy.
Live and on-demand webcasts. View our Talks Archive to access webcasts of past events.
Educator professional development opportunities and resources:
Webcast viewing parties for Teachers associated with the Texas Regional Collaboratives, featuring full technical support for remote viewers.
At each talk, we hand out Teaching Curriculum CD-ROMs from past talks that include engaging TEKS-aligned lesson plans, the speaker’s PowerPoint presentation, detailed notes for each slide, and other resources on the subject of the talk. The CD-ROMs provide educators with the materials needed to give their own lessons on cutting-edge topics.
