The Mother Load

58

We all know that parenting is messy, so The Mother Load podcast with hosts, Constance Zimmer and Missi Pyle, gets real and rips the bandaid off what it means to be a parent, that's not in the books. It's about progress, not perfection. Together, with a variety of special guests (some celeb friends) and experts, Constance and Missi talk about what really happens as a parent - the confusion, the uncomfortable moments, the best and the worst when it comes to raising kids. The show provides an unfiltered community filled with authentic conversations and experiences, lots of laughs and even a few tears. This is a place people can go to express their frustration about all the parenting mishaps that no one wants admit or feels comfortable talking about.

    So good
I’m blindly basing this review off the amazing song played on NNF. I died.

    Middling with some good moments
They can be funny and I to some solid topics, but there’s a lot of sponsor breaks (for stuff middle/upper class whites ladies want) AND it’s not always easy to relate to their positions of relative privilege and snark. Also, the into dialog tries to hard to be edgy, but sort of makes me cringe.

    Funny and relatable
These two ladies really let it all hang out and tell stories that let us know that everyone’s kids are lovable and also crazy.

    My kids are grown....
My kids are 26, 28 and 29 and I still enjoy listening to this show! I am pretty much finished parenting but love listening to the different twists and interesting views these ladies and their guests have on raising children. Looking back at the days when I was raising my kids I realize it was the fun and the humor that got us through everything and this is what I love so much about this show. Great ideas and input from other moms with a splendid twist of humor!

    Keep it coming!
As someone who inhales podcasts, and who has a library full of parenting books, I tuned into The Mother Load with great interest. I already knew—from the title and co-hosts Missi and Constance—that it’d be funny, quippy, irreverent, honest, blunt, let-your-hair-down-and-grab-a-glass-of-wine mothering advice. I knew I’d be plugging in to some serious confessions, welcome dialogue about imperfection, and in-your-face authenticity. But would it up my mothering game?? That is, of course, the real question (we mamas ain’t got time to waste). The answer is hell yes. Already, these guys have me making banana manna roll ups à la guest expert Catherine from Weelicious, contemplating the motive for the massive birthday party I’m about to throw my 5 year old (is it really for me?? Hmmmm…), and generally staring down the barrel of 5 years of glorious sleeplessness, unbridled delirium and euphoria, poignant recollection, and sublime introspection about motherhood that make me feel like I’m sharing a cup of coffee (vodka) with two girlfriends. So thanks, girlfriends, for talking, laughing, and inviting us into your honest look at The Mother Load. Keep going, I think it’s only going to get better…!

    Even Fun for Non-Mothers ha!
Even though I don’t have children I have really enjoyed listening to this podcast! These two ladies have the perfect amount of fun and humor as well as giving some good helpful information to parents. It’s great to tune in, laugh and relax from a stressful day while listening to them.
  • awesome find!
    Amazing new show!
This is the raw, real show parents need to listen to. As a mother of three, I’m so glad I have something I can relate to. Constance and Missi talk about the issues that most people are too afraid to talk about. Found my new obsession, definitely sharing this with all of my mom friends!

    Not a Totally Safe Space
I really enjoyed the first half hour of the first episode. I liked that the ladies proclaimed that they wanted their podcast to be a judgment-free zone for moms. Yet, later in the episode they were super judgmental and snarky regarding a mother who said she was disappointed she was having a girl and not a boy. My sister felt the same way when she was pregnant because she was never very girly growing up and she felt like she wouldn’t be a good mom to a little girl. I was disappointed at how dismissive and mean the hosts were about this mom’s feelings. Why would people confess anything to two women who are going to disregard and put down their feelings? I haven’t listened to any more episodes and probably won’t.

Thank you Constance and Missi for bringing it!
You two are funny. Smart. Real. And just all around awesome. Love this conversation and thanks for ripping through the veil of motherhood and talking about the real stuff in a way that makes me laugh and learn. Love you women!! Xo Abigail

    🙌🏼
Constance is an incredible mom (I’m sure Missi is too) and has a lot of great insight and instinct when it comes to parenting. I’m not a parent myself — but I’m still excited to listen.
