Continue to enjoy this podcast. Long time Jack Benny fan, I’ve listened to many shows but I really enjoy the introduction providing tidbits of facts including items mentioned in the broadcast (news of the day, people mentioned, etc) that helps out things in context.

John does a great job with this podcast, it’s for true fans of Old Time Radio. Some of these podcasts just put random episodes up, no commentary, no thought put into it. But John has fantastic insights into the show, gives information about references we may not have heard of, and sensitively acknowledges historical context when it comes to outdated humor. Love it, I look forward to every episode!

John’s intro is the best and helps with context of the show. Most episodes are crystal clear. I’ve been a Jack Benny fan since the late 1960’s. Thanks for a great podcast. Top notch!

John Henderson opens each show by putting the episode in context of the time it was originally broadcast. He gives you background on the references and allusions in the show, which greatly enhances listening enjoyment. Now John, will you please do Gildersleeve, Riley, or Fibber McGee?

Listening Sure Means Fine Times! Jack Benny was one of the greatest entertainers and media pioneers of the 20th Century. The “show within a show” concept was groundbreaking and allowed for lots of great gags, as well as giving the audience the feeling that they were allowed behind the scenes, and in on the jokes. His comedy is timeless. My parents were Jack Benny fans and now I am one as well. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Mr. Henderson’s contribution. His comments before each episode are what makes a good podcast, a great podcast.

I love Jack Benny and love the enthusiasm of the host. I like that he explains some of more obscure items that will be mentioned in the show. (even though I’m old enough to know about most of them).

Comedy owes a lot to Jack Benny but Jack had lots of running gags so explaining some of the ways of life from almost 100 years ago is helpful. This podcast is helpful and keeps things fun. The host clearly does a lot of research and that takes time. I appreciate it. I love these programs and it adds an extra layer to appreciate.

I’ve only recently found this podcast and it is part of my daily routine. I sometimes only get to here ten minutes and other days I can here three or four episodes and I’ve yet to find one that if not extremely funny, was at least historic with my walking away having learned something I did know before. Bravo to not only the case, but to our host who tirelessly works to give us the chance to love and appreciate something that may have been lost forever.

These shows are over 80 years old, and the comedy still holds up. Laugh out loud funny. Jack Benny should never be forgotten. His delivery, his character's notorious cheapness his indignation from his cast's insubordination never get old. The intro to the podcasts and insight to all the references of each show are priceless. What a well crafted podcast. So grateful to have found it. Also what a classy logo for the podcast thumbnail. Even that was well done. All class, baby🙂

I love the Jack Benny Show, the humor is for the most part timeless. The host does an incredible job of letting us know the “current“ events at the time of the show so we can still get a laugh. I love this podcast and can’t wait for each episode!

Absolutely the best and most carefully curated archive of wonderful Jack Benny shows.The host make sure you understand any references to topics that were timely at the time before he starts the broadcast and the sound quality is excellent. Very very enjoyable!

I have loved Jack Benny for years, and this podcast only helps me love him more. Very informative and a true tribute to the iconic show.

This podcast has opened up a whole new world to me. It introduced me to a show I had heard about in a historical context, and make the show accessible with the excellent research and introductions. As a result of this show, I read multiple books on Jack, the cast, and the historical significance of the show. It is not just fun and funny, but it provides a unique lens on and experience of American society and Hollywood from the 1930s - 1950s.

My husband and I adore old-time comedy radio shows and Jack is the best of th best. And This Day in Jack Benny is the best of the JB podcasts! We know; we have listened to all of them. John Henderson has a very pleasing voice and his intros are superb. He’s done so much research to provide context for each episode, often playing little bits of songs, commercials, movies etc that are referenced or spoofed in that show. He’s all about sharing the world at the time of the broadcast and making the experience as close as it could be without actually sitting around the radio during the original broadcast. And his intros aren’t about him or how clever he is or how much he adores the show, unlike another popular JB podcaster. Quality of the shows is always top-notch. If you want to immerse yourself in fun, clever, light-hearted comedy, this is the place!

I’m so glad I stumbled across this podcast. I’ve been listening to old Jack Benny episodes for years, but the context provided here makes the gags so much funnier! So many times, I couldn’t help but laugh along with the audience based on delivery, now I feel like I actually “get” the joke!

This is a great podcast. The host explains some of the references for each episode making the jokes accessible to all listeners. The “eras” of the radio program change sponsors, singers and band leaders and the host always lets you in on where this program fits. I like that too. My favorite singer is Dennis Day. Phil Harris as band leader and Lucky Strike as sponsor!

Best podcast of its kind…. And I’ve heard d a few! Great Intros that are brief and lay an important foundation for each show. I’ve listened to Hack Benny for years and looked up quite a bit to understand d Enid the bygone references….. but I learn something with each of these podcasts.

This is a must listen to for me. I grew up watching Jack Benny reruns on the original family channel in the early 80’s. Just a highlight of my week and I enjoy the intro that explains the gags and such for people who may not know them. I wish we had people make similar content today.

Very grateful for this podcast! Listening to “This Day in Jack Benny” has re-surfaced my young imagination that I must have lost along the way somewhere. After a long day, an episode of Jack Benny on the ride home is just what I need to greet my family with a smile at home 😄 An extra, humongous thank you to John Henderson for the historical context before each episode. The creator fills you in on a lot of the historical context for many of the gags and for someone new to Old Time Radio comedy, this show is a must. Well done!

I’m 12 and probably one of the only kids who know who Jack Benny is. I adore this podcast and love Jack Benny. But love Rochester the most😀

It’s fun to listen to the show, but I also appreciate background given by the host, although I’m sometimes surprised by what he thinks me needs to explain. Interesting social history.

I absolutely love old radio programs and have always liked Jack Benny. But this podcast is a step above the rest. The information before the show about what was happening at the time and context for some of the jokes is so helpful and makes it that much easier to enjoy and connect with the actors. I listen at work, while driving, doing embroidery, anytime I need some wholesome entertainment.

I love the fact that the presenter gives the background of some of the jokes that may be lost on modern audiences and gives a little glimpse of life “back in the day.” This really enhances the experience.

This is my favorite Jack Benny podcast!! I enjoy the background at the beginning and sometimes ending of each episode. I love to read celebrity memiors as well and will have to get Jack Benny’s. Could you do another music of Jack Benny episode? They have so many great songs, I believe a third installment is neccessary. Keep up the fine work.
