    Amazing
This podcast really drew me in with the beautiful descriptions of the most grotesque the writing and sound design is very well done. I would classify this podcast as light horror/body horror; at least season one. Very creepy and dread building, but not like jump-scare scary or anything like that. Very atmospheric. After season one it turns a little more occult-like. The tone overall is melancholic, but not in a boring way at all. The voice actor is fantastic and her tone and inflection work really well in all moments, and to evoke so many emotions in the listener. If you’re not a stranger to dissociation and loneliness, you may find a strange sense of solace in this podcast. If you like lone-narrator podcasts that have really interesting world building, definitely give this one a try. I think this may have topped Alice Isn’t Dead for me as my favorite fictional narrative, can’t recommend it enough.

    Really Hooked Me
I am not generally a horror fan but came here via the Girl in Space podcast. I thought the concept was quite creative and it had a few surprises for me. Most of the voice acting was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. It’s my first foray into creative fiction podcasts aside from GiS and Levar Burton Reads. I will check out more!

    Creative imagery and characters!
The first couple of episodes were confusing but it all started to make sense as you went along. I fell in love with the characters and became invested in their stories and relationships. The ending was beautiful! And the descriptive language used made me feel like I was watching a movie!!! 10/10 would recommend

    Wanted To Love It
The story just never connected with me. I did listen all the way through season 1, so I definitely tried. Not for me.

    Good start
Season one was great, a little mystery a little creepy. Season 2 the story gets boring and writer gets political. Still re listen to season one sometimes

    Enthralling
I was absolutely enthralled by this story. I wish there were more like it and Alice isn’t Dead. A perfect surreal blend of creepy and magical. Thank you!

    Good story. Better representation!
I listened to the whole series a while ago, and just remembered it a few minutes ago, while listening to Alice isnt Dead. Being largely Queer, it's often hard to find stories that feel represantative in any way. It's so rare that I consume media with proper/inoffensive portrayals of other members of the LGBTQ+ community. In this podcast, there's multiple, including a non binary character, who's (spoilers) a love interest for the main character, but also, is three dimensional and engaging in thier own right. Wonderful wonderful, wonderful! The LGBTQ+ identities of these characters fit well within the story, which is largely non-traditional, and outside the binaries. The whole thing has a consistently hazy, almost ethereal feel to it. I was constantly engaged. Again, fantastic! Most who listen will definitley be frightened (in a good way). I'm an outlier, and suspect my immunity to these fears has something to do with the fact that I'm a conissuer of the most grizzly, gory, and outright disturbing, true crime cases. This did not lessen my enjoyment of the story, though. In summary, you must listen to this, or else....

    Fun and compelling
Good story and a compelling desire to know what happens. Some of the tempo was a little dry for me. A great show.

    An amazing podcast
One of my favorite pieces of fiction! Fascinating story, rich and inclusive characters, and all beautifully written. Even the voice acting is amazing with a very charming protagonist. I beg of you to truly give it a chance. By that I mean multiple episodes... possibly even the first full season. The pay off is worth it! I am on my fourth listen.

    Spines
    I can’t wait for more!

    Surprisingly Brilliant!!
Spines is one of those podcasts you keep on seeing but in the back of your head there’s a voice going “sure, looks fine, probably just another half-done horror podcast, though.” But you could NOT be further from the truth. It’s very well done and easily addictive. You’re taken on a ride with only the information the main character starts with herself. From then on you can start to see a bugger picture. And it’s a very lovely mosaic. Personally, as a botanist and someone born with an exceedingly rare mosaic genetic disorder, Spines really taps into strange niches and my deepest imagination with its science fiction, horrifyingly life-like and believable. Wren Jones has a great voice for the show as well. My ONLY thing is that the first half of season one has some shaky audio recording but it’s easily overlooked as the story is so good and enthralling. Imaginative, chilling, just an overall podcast for horror and sci-fi fans to latch onto.

    Spooky and soothing
I love this podcast! It is creepy and well written and I can’t stop thinking about it.

    Great story
So interesting and really intriguing. It’s weird and creepy and I love the writing.

    Creepy and Heartfelt
I love this pod! Such great writing, great voice acting, I binged this hard. The character of Shan made my heart full of joy, because it is such a compassionate and dynamic way of portraying a trans person — as a trans person myself, I hardly ever see (or hear) that; thank you for them. Do yourself a favor and listen to this, you won’t regret it!

One of my 2 favorite fiction podcasts
Spines is absolutely stunning. It’s haunting and weird on a level that is difficult to find in podcasts. The format is exactly what I want and, unlike many other promising horror podcasts, the ending is FANTATSTIC. This is creepiness and high dark fantasy storytelling at its best.

I binged and now don't know what to do with my life
    Great fun, make more❗
  • MACSbean
    So good.
Such a great podcast, it deserves to be more well-known. One thing I will say: it’s pretty hypnotic. You might end up falling asleep in the middle of an episode and be confused about where you left off. Haha.

    A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
This podcast is incredible. Production = A+. Story = A+. Actors = A+. Writing = A+. And to top it off—It is the BEST conclusion to possibly any story I've ever heard from ANY medium. Do. It.

    Wonderful imagination
I loved this from start to finish. Great job visualizing this imaginative and complex world with descriptive notes and details. The plot is in depth and thorough. Highly recommend!

    Absolutely beautiful
I started this podcast, and the first season is hard, I had to listen to it twice, but goddamn is it good. Such an incredible story for anyone looking for sci-fy meets fantasy meets potential apocalypse. Incredibly narrated filled with illustrative writing.
  • Sammyzmom
    Excellent!
I'm not usually a big fan of wholly narrated dramas but this is excellent! The story has a beginning middle and end! No shark jumping & super well done.

A podcast to compete for my favorite.
Wow. Just...wow. I’ve only completed the first season, but this podcast is already among my favorites. The writing is simply phenomenal, vividly describing the scenes of both calm or horror phenomenally. The pacing is great, allowing you to piece together just what the heck is going on, piecing together parts of the setting and form it in your head as the story progresses. And the sheer creativity of the characters and their variety of abilities is astounding, creating scenes that are strange at first, but become more fleshed out as you listen to more. And hey, if an anime reference or two are thrown in there, I don’t mind. Overall, a phenomenal podcast with a great story, competing with SAYER for my favorite. The only con is that I know there are only three seasons, but I can’t wait to listen. 10/10

    beautiful, creepy, and unique
This is in my top 3 favorite podcasts, and that’s saying a lot. Wren’s voice is light and calm, melodically narrating a hauntingly beautiful, vivid world that is easy to get lost in. The writing, acting, and music all create the perfect atmosphere for a dark fantasy story with brilliant world building, characterization, and heart. Altogether an amazing audio drama.

    Wow!
I really loved this podcast. Unfortunately I got into it after it was all over, so this review is rather late. (Still, at least I was able to binge listen and not be stuck with any cliffhangers!) The narrator's voice reminds me a lot of Keisha (Jasika Nicole) in Alice Isn't Dead (already a plus there) and the story hooks you in pretty quickly. My only frustration is that the actor who voices Shan isn't identified, and they have an amazing voice! Love the diversity and inclusion, too. Never enough of that in real life, in my opinion. Looking forward to other podcasts from this group--Keep up the great work!
  • STFUNGTFO
    Good find.
The first couple of episodes throw you right in to the mix with no compass at all, but soon thereafter, the story takes off as piece by piece, things start falling in their places to unfold this unique and intrigue storyline.
  • Christina288
    Simply fantastic.
I’m so happy I found this podcast! Beautifully written and narrated, and absolutely singular. Could not stop listening... I’ve recommended to everyone!
  • jerf_herf
    Excellent!!
Spines is a story podcast that follows the wacky adventures of an uppity feminist, a transgender shrub, and a Hindu tree frog. Join this diverse cast of characters as they explore a fantastic world full of wizards, monsters, and wizard monsters. You’ll be sure to enjoy confusing plot holes, boring dialog, and constant immersion breaking identity politics which the author hamhandedly crammed into this masterpiece of mediocrity.

    oooooohhhhhh
I truly love this podcast. Good voice talent, good story, deeply engaging, good production. Every time I finish an episode I feel sad I don't have another to listen to. Truly one of my faves. Not sure it's over, it feels kind of over, and that makes me sad.
  • Ghostofrecon
    Good but not perfect
I really like the podcast, however the use of singular they/them pronouns is difficult in the podcast format. I had to keep reminding myself that it was singular they and it made the story flow hard to follow in sections. I don’t mind the use, but when there are more than two characters being discussed it is difficult to differentiate. It would be much easier to follow in those situations if the character in question (trying to avoid spoilers) was referred to by their name. That being said, the writer does a great job of telling an interesting, dark story, despite the main character being kind of a Mary Sue.

    Excellent Story
The story, the sounds, the music are all incredibly well put together and perfectly aligned to send the listener into the setting of this story. I didn’t want the story to end. Quite thought provoking and funny at times, as Wren is quite a character with comedic lines acted out with fantastic timing and wittiness. A must listen to podcast!
  • A Pleasant Day in the Woods
    Gorgeous, amazing story
Worth a listen, if only for the extraordinary imagery.

    Great story
    Really really enjoyed it!!!!
  • madlikealyce
Deliciously dark, beautifully twisted, and immensely powerful story.
I loved every moment of this suspenseful, eloquently written and performed story. Spines masters he perfect balance between darkness and beauty and leaves me yearning for more of this world.
  • iampanda
    Lovely, bizarre tale.
I wasn’t sure what I was getting into the first few episodes..took a few to really get into it. Glad I stuck it out cause it really picks up, and the final episode is a great ending to this creepy, beautiful story.

    Creepy good
Vivid Stomach turning Irresistible Like a terrifying dream you want to see through to the end
  • AylaTaylor
    Amazing!
The writing for this show is so great! I love how vivid the descriptions. And the approach to super powers is so unique. My favorite thing is when they describe a new character's power. The powers are so creepy and facinating. The series finale was so good. Probably one of the best finales in audio drama.
  • NewportBeachGirl
    Sad
Sorry but the story is so slow and so fragmented its actually boring. Sigh. I was hoping for so much more. The voice actress is okay, although her pitch is rather high, making it even harder to listen. Maybe better equipment and a softer voice would do the trick. I listened to 4 1/2 episodes and couldn’t take it anymore.
  • Dienro7
    So addictive
One of the most well produced and engaging podcasts out there. Binged until I caught up, then eagerly awaited next new episode. Will likely go back and listen to the whole thing again. Unusual characters and plot line, full of twists and wow moments. Loved the podcaster’s voice and delivery.
