SolKMMTHANK You Starship IRIS!Thank you for what? For renewing my hope that there are more audio fiction/drama creative beings in the universe.. or at least being part of the balance. TOO many podcasts saying they are audio drama/fiction that are not or I can’t find them. Sound design on point, voice acting is totally believable (aka, awesome job cast!) the story never lags, never wanders off and kept me awake all night because I needed to hear one more episode. I’m sad knowing the next season is the last but also glad I have not landed there yet. I love the songs that dot parts of the scripts. The cuteness of the relationships is perfect. Not too dark but not too silky. I just love it. Thank you!

AmazonBearIncredible storyThis show is so incredible not just how it shows great representation for the LGBTQIA+ community, but for the sci-fi community! The characters are fun and their emotions moving. It’s easy to listen to and fall in love with. Highly recommend.
-
WhammyAmmyI like itAn incredible sci-fi narrative with an awesome cast of LGBT+ characters with strong relationships.
-
isabel_w_9325One of my least favorite podcastsHave you ever encountered a story that *technically* has a lot of LGBT representation but the whole thing is so poorly-constructed and nonsensical that dragging real demographics into this feels homophobic? If not, turn back while you still can.
-
beebekindEager for more!I love the mystery, suspense, comedy, and found family love in this story. Is it still being produced? I am yearning for more content and companionship from the characters I have come to find as my own found family.

am i me?AmazingI love this show

Nato“Nice Firefly,” basically.Jessica Best’s intelligent, exciting, slyly metafictional sci-fi podcast takes the basic idea of lovable outlaws on an iffy spaceship and spins it in compelling new directions. She does a great job fleshing out her characters into people you love spending time with and care about. She introduces interesting sci-fi ideas that don’t retread well-worn territory. She brings in an alien race so well-thought-out that each new revelation about their culture (and their soapy TV dramas) feels fresher and more interesting than the last. And she weaves a tale that should not be as useful as it is about how to band together to survive and find joy in terrifying times. Fundamentally kind but never fluffy or toothless, Starship Iris is the podcast whose return I most eagerly await.

Ben FYMLove itSuch a sweet and exciting space drama that has been told in its fullness by writers and actors with intelligent takes on language, civics, gender and sexuality. If you’re accustomed to cishet-centered narratives, try expanding your worldview with this thrilling gem. All are welcome. I’m always excited to listen to the next episode!

L4990So good!!Such a great show, I love the development of the characters and the exciting story! Awesome fiction podcasts like this get me through boring work days and for that I’m grateful. Can’t wait for more to come out!!!!!!
-
nospammers2010Mostly goodThe story is really interesting and voiced well. I just found the in-your-face LGBT agenda got to be quite annoying and distracting from what could have been a 5-star experience.
-
Puppylover785AMAZINGI absolutely love this podcast!!!!
-
Mattd656The story is interesting and well done butall the imaginary identity politics/make believe pronoun nonsense makes it hard to fully enjoy
-
AlexicangelFun listenI really enjoy this podcast. The story weaves together over the episodes and the adventure is topped off by the characters’ personalities. It makes it for a fun listen.

~ Violet ~Bits and PiecesLots of interesting bits and pieces come together in this Audio Drama. Some of the bits that make the project especially suited to being a podcast are: the in-story musical elements; the made up languages; and of course the diversity. Part of the mission here is diversity of characters, so yay! Great starting point. There’s a linguist on board, and they save the day a time or two. We get to hear the made up languages and some brainstorming sessions of how some grammatical concepts might translate for different lifetimes, which is pretty neat. Starship Iris is a pirate ship space opera, a platform that really lets the musical elements shine. The story of a sea song is built up until we eventually hear it as a fully produced pop song that functions as the shows intro music. It’s a very engaging, evocative tune. While resisting the urge to over explain, we see how and why music and singing might be important on a Starship. It’s a little “bit” that’s worth digging into, both for audio storytelling and for space opera. You can really tell a lot of thought has gone into building this show for audio. Apparently there’s three seasons planned, and two are completed so far, leaving off in a comfortable spot, so there’s plenty of rewarding stuff for audience now.

lilith and adamI need more!!I’ve listened to this story 3X through now, but I need more!! Do they see each other again? Can they really take on the Republic?? M-O-R-E!!!
-
Nameless NinjaFantastic!!!!!!!!!I finally got around to listening to the second season, but you know that meant I just had to re-listen to the whole first season again! Oh darn. I’ll just have to have more joy in my life.
-
hugffghiNeed moreGreat job!! Want more!! Is there more??
-
wildcatherderAstonishingly GoodI've done radio drama - everything from sound effects, writing, producing, directing and acting (small-time, a long time ago) - and this is very good. Every time I was about to write it off as too cutesy or pat, a dramatic turn would change my mind. It uses dialog to promote the convuluted story. The absolute best writing does not need "funny voices", shouting, and lots of explosions. (However, the commercials are REALLY LOUD.)
-
PappyJoe2014I'm HOOKEDI'm really hoping for another season.
-
LynntotheAnneFantasticThis show is fun and interesting and well definitely give you the feel goods. Isn’t that what we all need?
-
oftensleeplessCan’t stop listening!!Just binged both seasons-love all the characters and the story!! Hoping for more!!
-
Woozy woowooGreat show minus far left propagandaThis is suppose tobe the future, I don’t think pronouns will be so prevalent that it needs tobe brought up everytime a character is introduced, Also when talking about history like the pilgrims conversation and bring up that they were known for genocide, every so called classification of groups has horrible stuff but to candy pic certain things just reminds me of pushing an agenda or a lack of history but other than that I dig the show
-
sodapopsamNEW FAVORITE PODCAST ALERTthis is just so incredible. I love this more than I can describe in words-I everything about it is beautiful, the characters, the plot, just everything. plus, I’d be lying if I said that I hadn’t screen-recorded the theme song and had been listening to it on loop for the last hour. IT SLAPS SO HARD! I’ve recommended it to 9 of my friends already, and I’m not stopping anytime soon.
-
DinalaeSo much to loveLove the fleshed-out characters, the multifaceted relationship development, layers of mystery and shenanigans, and language nerding on top! I can’t write what I really want in here without spoilers, but The Strange Case of Starship Iris does what I always hope science fiction will do - provide escapism but also encourage thought. A lot of thought and love has been put into this, and it shows.
-
kingoflessermenThis show is everything I’ve ever looked forAs a trans sac butch, this is the closest I’ve ever felt to really being represented in a character with all of my complexities (yes, I mean Arkady). The voice acting and chemistry is phenomenal and the story is highly captivating. Also really love the character relationships, and each episode does so much with just a few short minutes. I can’t get enough!
-
1204 animalgirlLove it!!I absolutely love this podcast. It has everything from spaceships and aliens to a trans translator and his fiancée, a nonbinary purple alien(still cracks me up lol). If your looking for a mystery, sci-fi, space, and a little bit of romance podcast, then you have come to the right place. The only think I could as for is to add “Fear For The Storm” to Amazon Music. Thanks for reading my review!! ❤️

Michayla18LOVE this podcast but it NEEDS a “previously on”This is everything I want in a sci-fi podcast. If you loved Firefly, you'll love this. This would have been a five star review except for the fact that they don’t have a “previously on“ summary at the beginning of each episode. The plot is intricate enough, and there’s (understandably) enough time between episodes that it’s necessary. It has become harder to enjoy episodes as I spend a lot of time asking myself “Who is that again? What are they doing on that planet?”
-
CyanalkalNew favorite podcastThrilling, funny, ethnically diverse, queer, incredibly well written, acted and produced...and in space! Just, what more can you ask for in an audio drama? This show finds a good balance between lightheartedness and darker themes, and I am so glad I found it. I can’t wait for more episodes!! Also the characters are fantastic, and I may be a little in love with a certain non-binary pilot :P
-
Wise_KittenHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhIt’s so GOOD! Its just so good. What words can I use to convey how much I love this? I have no clue. But it’s an extremely good podcast. Listen to it. If you already have, do it again.
-
Richard KLWell Done ScifiThis is a solidly entertaining sci-fi show with a diverse cast of characters, a queer love story, action, adventure, and giving the middle finger to a corrupt authority. Pretty much everything I'd want from my sci-fi audio drama.
-
colpernicusGREAT WORK HEREJUST realized this podcast is producing episodes again! i've listened to the first five or so episodes of the show probably two or three times now - i think they are so fun and i love making other people listen to episodes. i cannot tell u how jazzed i am. i drive a delivery truck and i'm so excited to put on my favorite podcast again.
-
JohnnyPappasQuite EnjoyableI really enjoyed listening to this podcast space drama. The acting was good in the character development was good enough for something in the space.I highly recommend this podcast!
-
QuinsOlFantasticGreat voice acting, absolutely fantastic sound-mixing. I'm sensitive to awkward or unnatural-sounding dialogue and this show doesn't ping that at all! I love all of the characters, and how each of them has their own depth and story that's slowly being told. They've also done a great job moving from their first season arc into a believable recovery and second arc. The representation and different topics casually built in make me so happy, too :)
-
CBCLTExcellent! The voice acting is exceptional and the story is really entertaining. One of the best!
-
kyndallinThe bestestI listen to this on repeat. The new Campbell weirds me out, but man this show has everything!
-
Smittyry17Pretty goodI like it. It’s been a pretty good time listening to it. Sometimes little things seemed forced in the beginning. But I liked it and am glad I listened to the end. Also good enough I will relisten to it again later :). Edit: upon reflection bumped it up to 5 stars. Love the show even with some quirks and I will check out the other shows on the network. :) wish this was longer. I got worried when I saw how far apart some episodes were posted. Glad the show kept going.
-
Smart Alick 16Addictive!I love this show ! Everything about this show is spot on. Character development and sound a great storyline! This is perfection!
-
pixlecat19So Good!Likable, interesting characters that you want to know more about. Give us more dirt on them! Space outlaws, our anti-heroes are fighting to stay alive and one step ahead of an oppressive regime. The transgender human and alien couple is a nice original touch. Can’t wait for more!
-
JasmineBagginsAwesome, complex storyIt starts out high tension and it only gets wilder, with an awesome cast and a great use of the medium. Hope there’s more coming!
-
DnD Gurlsalutthis bueno. so good. merci bocoup for dis. love u starship iris. au rivoir
-
NickAJGCreative and genuineThis podcast walks the line between fiction and real-world relevance masterfully. It’s easy to be drawn into this carefully constructed world and immerse yourself in all the show has to offer. The actors are spot-on, the story is compelling, and the delivery (from the in-character credits and intro to the clever explanation of just why there’s audio to begin with) makes the experience all the more enriching. I’m certainly looking forward to Season 2 of this gem.
-
ApingelMy new go-to audio contentI keep the aeries downloaded and just listen again and again anytime I need a pick-me-up
-
DaedalixGrows as it GoesThe first ep was a bit bumpy but very interesting. Every episode after that showed improved mastery of podcast audio and acting. Dramatic build with varied cast and plenty of humor along the way with nothing taken too seriously but all kinds of stakes.
-
whatsaMaxwelltodoOutstanding!A beautiful well acted space adventure!
-
pw122456ExcellentGreat unique story, voice actors are good
-
BcxdhbnkgdsWell-written, well-acted, well-made!Great story, great universe, amazing production value, deep characters, topical themes, and just all around fun!
-
CarlinNotGeorgeSo good!!This was SUCH a great story, awesome acting, amazing podcast. I listened to the whole thing start to finish in a single day and I’m so sad it’s over. Hopefully in the future maybe they will make a second story arc with the same characters! Give this a listen it is wonderful.
-
KikibeekiDon’t listen to the hatersThis is a fantastic podcast which I have relistened many times. The story is interesting and I like the distinctiveness of each character. I cannot wait for season 2 to come out!!
-
KateCrestQueer indie lovesong to Firefly, in the best wayYou’d like a space opera? Right here. Ragged outlaws outfoxing the system? You got it. A fight for liberation? That’s what space operas are for. Quality audiodrama? Here you’ll find clever dialogue, a sweeping plot and memorable characters, with stellar writing, acting, and sound design. Listen to the first two episodes and tell me you aren’t already half in love with every character on the main cast. I dare you. Meanwhile, the latter half of the season contains one of the coolest mechanisms I’ve ever seen for breaking a fourth wall the narrative itself created. Queer representation? Hell yes. Love, loyalty and redemption? Why else are we here? Found family? Look no further. Go listen. Just make sure you have several hours to spare for when you realize you don’t ever want to stop.
