PalmettoSunLove this podcast!I heard about this podcast on the Ghost Story Guys. I live in South Carolina. Absolutely love to hear about the gothic and haunted lore from the south. The podcast is very well detailed and narrated. That’s important to me. I’ve been listening to it for a little while here. Today I listened to “The most hated woman in Virginia.” So far my favorite. I’m trying to get caught up on all of them. Great work! Absolutely recommend this podcast!

Jschu80Recommended from another podcasterI’ve been looking for another paranormal podcast to listen to. This was highly recommended by Darren Marlar of Weird Darkness. He posted an episode on his channel a couple days ago of fear daily and I was instantly addicted. Started my journey through the library of episodes. Great podcast!!

Nothere2NamesPlease check spelling of names, especially of one of the most important people I grew up to know. She was an amazing person. Kathryn Tucker Windham
-
MadsandmoreWonderfulJust finished my first episode and can’t wait to binge while cleaning 🥰
-
Beannie2018An old story, well told.I loved the story of Robert Johnson.
-
dusty oldbonesUnexamined MisogynyThe first episode I listened to was the “Headless Woman” episode, and I’m hesitant to continue… (SPOILER!) it’s a story about a woman murdered by her husband in a jealous rage because she was getting ugly and old…?! and she was aging prematurely because she pridefully didn’t want help cleaning the house… (she needed the distraction!!) and he found her in the attic writing letters to her ex-love… like what kind of narrative is this pushing! None of this woman’s actions make sense, it seems like it’s told with sympathy to the murderer. Listened to another story where the villain was a 16 year old orphan girl, who wickedly tempted a poor innocent twenty something man… The host needs to really think about what morals he is putting out into the world by repeating old stories like these without any analysis or reflection on social contexts. It’s the difference between propagating the status quo and keeping things the same vs. trying to make the world a less painful place for marginalized people.

jsiansoandixkwnsoxmsblove it!! 💘just when i thought i couldn’t enjoy this podcast more… im listening and hear their ad break to sponsor a non-profit organization that the narrator’s family supports. not only is the cause wonderful, but someone using their platform to encourage others to help those in need really struck me. as a podcast lover and animal rights advocate, and volunteer at my local animal shelter - this was amazing to hear. keep doing the good work, i love it! southern states struggle the most in the US, where shelter-capacity and euthanasia rates are the highest. every little bit helps ❣️ very inspiring! thank you!! pls adopt don’t shop people, for every dog u buy from a breeder = a dog euthanized in shelter. u can help by supporting your local animals shelters!!
-
scoottirenjoy the show buyI enjoy the show, the issue I have iis with the subsciber episodes. I have no problem with the idea or that it is done. My issue is with the fact I cannot filter them out of my feed. I listen to podcast on my comute and trying to do things on my phone while I am driving is not good.
-
Dr CaboGreat show!My family is from the south and I love this podcast. And for everyone complaining about adds… go pay some money and go add free. Why y’all so entitled you can’t appreciate a FREE awesome show without complaining about adds???? If you’re still complaining…welp, BLESS YOUR HEART ❤️
-
KaylaBerry09Love this podcast! One of my favorites! Everyone criticizing the “lisp” has perhaps not considered the fact that a microphone is being used to record this I guess?? And as far as ads go, you can literally just skip them. They have to make money to continue providing the podcast somehow. I love the story telling and Brandon is an excellent host. Very knowledgeable and great at telling these stories!
-
MaughamsBoyNope. Not this.Too many ads and awkward writing, editing, presentation. This is the podcast equivalent of triple spacing a book report to pad the page count. Host seems like a nice guy, but it's not enough to counter the cringey, half-baked, overwrought subject matter.
-
The Real Zen BoyIt’s an ad networkIt started out fairly good, but by 2022 ads took over more and more of the podcast. Over 5 mins of ads in the beginning, short intro, more ads, and on and on. At some point it just wasn’t worth it.
-
SassyNYC123Too many adsToo many ads.
-
DMWellsYou’ve gotta listen to this podcast y’all…Southern Gothic is a well-produced, objective exploration of the interplay between “local lore” and historical narratives. From the recurring melodies to the high interest subject matter, every episode has something unique to offer. Bryanne and Brandon’s enthusiasm for the genre as well as the attention to detail in their research is both infectious and authentic. This is a must listen podcast!
-
KG FloridaBinge WorthyI discovered this podcast via Brandons guest appearance on Jim Harolds Campfire. I am going through each episode one by one! Excellent podcast, great stories and excellent production. History and lore along with ghosts…Perfect! Kevin G

RKCS6841Stories I haven’t heardNo useless chatter- straight to the story-I love how he includes history- thumbs up
-
pheiressInteresting!Really love the historical knowledge. Sometimes feels one-sided but not too often. I do wish the host would pronounce “subsequent” correctly for once. The mispronunciations kill it for me at times. But all-in-all an entertaining podcast.
-
Proffesor KittyI really like the topicsIt’s so well done. I just wish the host could work on his lisp of s to sh. I get so distracted. My sister had speech lessons and I feel like I wish I could run pronunciations with him. No shade.
-
HRHolmanBest haunted history podcast and hostI love this podcast! The dulcet tones of the host’s voice soothe me to sleep where I can dream about ghosts, murder, and all things spooky about the south.
-
Hanover2012Good stories!Love the stories but hate the long silent pauses. I end up thinking there’s been a malfunction but just in time, the story resumes.
-
LemonyBlytheBest Haunted History ShowThis my favorite haunted history podcast. The vibes and storytelling are perfect and the stories aren’t the same old ones you get with other shows.
-
PoesyGirlAddictedSo glad I heard your interview on Sinisterhood! Been listening to several of your episodes a day! So entertaining and informative.
-
CheryldecTrying to like it, but…While the content is interesting, the delivery could use some work. Tighten up the pace a bit. Be careful of your pronunciation. It is definitely funky in terms of basic vocabulary. Also, anything starting with “str” is not pronounced “shhtr”. Example: “straight”, not “shtraight”. This might sound picky, but if you’re going to be podcaster, this stuff is important for your credibility. And lastly, even though you are reading a script, put some enthusiasm into it. Add some feeling!
-
CaughtByGraceSubscriber Getting ScrewedI paid extra to become a subscriber to get subscriber only content but mostly to get ad-free episodes. Nope! Brandon and Bree still making us listen to the obnoxious ads like the nasally loon-lady poffering her aristocracy history. Don’t become a subscriber for they lie.
-
Carbine PhantomExcellent show. Atrocious editing in the most recent upload. This podcast is excellent but the most recent Franklin Masonic Hall episode is so garbled in the last 10 minutes of the episode, it’s unlistenable which is a shame since that’s where the ghost story portion of the episode was located. I don’t understand how this episode got released in the state it’s in.
-
nowhearthis76Southern GothicLots of good southern lore and love the narration. I like that Brandon paces his narration and gives love the investigations into the subjects. Look forward to this one every week, after catching up on back episodes.

-
BackwoodsBuffaloFantastic show!As a NC native, pirate historian, and resident of Beaufort NC I fell in love with this podcast immediately. The research is no joke. I’m learning things I’ve never heard in my 33 years.
-
Muad’didMammoth CaveEnjoyed the two episodes on Mammoth Cave (Floyd Collins and the TB patients). They were both informative and chilling.
-
Kevinr5SpookyI always need more spooky stories in my life and this is what I need
-
stillnotanonymousInteresting but flawedGood stories but the apologetic treatment of Robert E. Lee in the Arlington episode (and similar things in other Civil War content on the podcast) is not okay in 2023. You can do better.
-
CourtRach44Absolutely love!I have been really enjoying learning more about Southern history. The south has such a rich history and culture and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about it!
-
AshOp77Fab PodcastThese stories are well told and well researched! Thank you Brandon!
-
BeaverschmidtOne gripeThe content and production are excellent (disclaimer: I’m a folklore/storytelling- loving Native Alabamian). Brandon’s voice is great. However, his halting way of pausing after every 3rd word takes me out of the story, so I find I can’t binge this particular podcast.
-
disapponted.1Excellent!Love the stories! The Alice Flagg story is great! I’ve been to her grave, I lived about 2 miles from the cemetery. It’s a beautiful place to rest.
-
StoneyClementsLove it!Well researched and extremely well told! Love this podcast! My favorite of all the supernatural shows I’ve listened to. 2 thumbs up and a glass raised!
-
Tealsky04By far the coolest podcastAbsolutely love this podcast and everything about it. I’ve learned some new things as well. Always start my morning with Southern Gothic!
-
OostiegayPodcastThis is my favorite podcast I love the history that goes behind all the episodes and the way some of the episodes keep you on the edge of your seat!! it’s just a wonderful wonderful podcast!! Always look forward to new episodes!
-
JohnnyMia1The soft spoken eerie southern voice +A+qualityMakes this a must listen. Well done sounthern I hope you are cause I’d be fooled. Excellent storytelling and being from Charleston, SC I have heard a few ;) suffering from memory loss I can’t recall a whole story but recognize finally after listening to you tell it! Wonderful! John
-
WHATUSAYOne of My FavsThis podcast has always been, from day one, one of my absolute favorites. The stories chosen are amazing, the voice is amazing, and they seem very well researched. I’ve always hated podcasts with a lot of inane side chatter, especially when they’re talking about a serious subject, such as a missing person or what not. This is absolutely a well done, well thought out podcast
-
Rocky D MWPA master class in storytellingHauntingly historic, spooky folk tales and legends come alive in this incredibly well researched, and beautifully produced podcast. Southern Gothic doesn’t just focus on the tales we all know… it digs deeper into the mud to delight us with the “locals only”darker side of the American South.
-
PantiesblahblahblahGood, but could be greatStories are well-researched and interesting, but the delivery is painfully slow and drawn out. Also, if the host is southern I can’t tell.
-
GipsieGurlFun and SpookySuch a fun and enjoyably spooky podcast, reminiscent of campfire stories. I have to skip parts with the sister’s grating accent, but otherwise it is such an enjoyable listen.
