    Succinct, insightful, and amazing clear
This is a really insightful podcast. First, I’ll confess, I’m not an economist. I do, however, seek to understand the world we live in. The New Bazaar arrived at the right time for me - conflicting economic projections, inflation, recession, etc. - and I feel like I need to thank Cardiff Garcia. I find the topic selection to be unique but consequential. His analysis is succinct and penetrating. His conversations and his guests provide real insight into the complex issues that shape our world. Issues that I readily admit I need help hacking through. This podcast goes a long way in helping me fill in my intellectual blindspots, and has given me support when seeking to understand the huge economic forces that influence my daily life. Can’t recommend it enough.

Fascinating topics & deep questions, while still being accessible
This podcast really stands out from the crowd. Such incisive interviews. You can tell how much prep Cardiff must put into the interviews - his questions are always incredibly thoughtful, full of context, and teach me something in and of themselves while also eliciting gold from the guests. Best long form economics podcast!

    Top Quality
I thought Cardiff was an amazing co-host of The Indicator. I was sad to hear he was leaving that show, but The New Bazaar more than makes up for it. His choice of guests and topics is excellent; I especially love how his questions help tease complicated subjects apart in a way that makes them easier to understand. And the production is top-notch. Well worth your time.

    Very informative and insightful!
Keep up the good work: I love listening to the show, including hearing a about personal tidbits on how TNB is coming along as a venture. Your passion and dedication shines through in every episode!

    Informative and a good listen
Really enjoy this show. You would think listening to an economics show that is an hour long would be a bit much but it is not. Cardiff is very thoughtful on his conversations and works to keep things factual and let the audience know when he is presenting an opinion. Really hope they keep doing it. Thanks

    Great content & production
One of the best economics podcasts out there! Fascinating deep dives, easy to comprehend, and top notch sound quality. Mad love for this show.

Excellent long form business/economics interview show
I first started hearing Cardiff Garcia as a Marketplace Friday weekly roundup guest. Next was NPR’s Planet Money followed by The Indicator podcasts. Garcia was always engaging, well informed, and thoughtful throughout. The New Bazaar is a great evolution by moving to long form interviews with fascinating guests. Kudos to Cardiff and producer Aimee Keane for creating a weekly “must listen” show. Highly recommended.

    Love that guy
I’m not an economics guy just love Cardiff, will listen to whatever he does till the end of time. Only constructive criticism, wouldn’t hate having Stacey Vanek Smith join the pod, best duo of all time.

Another Econ Pod in the Toolbelt
The New Bazaar is such a great addition to my regular round of economics podcast listening. I love that Cardiff takes the time to talk so in depth about one specific issue, and I’ve already gotten a fresh view on topics such as housing and the energy market. Looking forward to new episodes!

    Well done
I’ve listened to Cardiff on the FT and NPR for a few years. I was disappointed when he announced that he was leaving NPR but so impressed with the show he’s produced.

    Masterful
Cardiff makes extremely dense topics accessible and fun/interesting. This podcast is a must-listen for anyone curious about how (we think) the world works today.

Incredible long form interviews with Cardiff Garcia
I used to listen to Cardiff Garcia as the host of “Alphachat” from the Financial Times, and I thought he was one of the best long form interview hosts I’ve heard. It was great to hear him co-hosting “The Indicator” from Planet Money as well, but I was lost looking for another show like “Alphachat”. With “The New Bazaar” my search if over. So if you like long form interviews with an engaging and thoughtful host “The New Bazaar” is a must. No pressure Cardiff, but I’m looking forward to hundreds, if not thousands of future episodes.

    Leaving show
While many of the topics are interesting, the latest show had a question regarding truthfulness and the response was to reply to a lie with a lie. Two wrongs do not make a right… if more people recognized this, we would all be in a better place. I cannot support the position and therefore the podcast.

    Excellent, engaging content.
Love the long form interviews, and the chance to dive into the details of complex topics.

    Interesting conversations on economics
I have enjoyed Cardiff Garcia as an interviewer since his days on the Financial Times’ Alphachat podcast. It is nice to have him back in long-form discussions. Try the Samuelson vs Friedman episode as a starter.

    Great podcast
I loved Cardiff on ‘The Indicator’ and was really sad when he left. This new venture is great! He is a very good journalist and asks all the right questions. His guests are always very interesting and the topics are timely. Really worth a listen!

    Great Work Cardiff!!!
I became a fan of Planet Money. And am excited about this podcast. But now you’re showing leanings to the left and less of neutral and covering all sides equally…

    Educational
The New Bazaar has certainly opened my mind to think about topics I hadn’t really considered and give new insight to those I have. Cardiff’s style keeps me listening for more. Great Podcast.

    Love it
I miss him on The Indicator but love the depth of this podcast.

    Immediately a favorite. Must listen
This has quickly become one of my go-to podcasts. Cardiff and team have an incredible ability to dive deep into interesting and/or pressing topics and both plumb the depths of a guest’s expertise and distill complexities for listeners along the way. It’s always an interesting listen from a great and thoughtful interviewer.

I have been listening to Cardiff for years. This podcast will not let you down. Complex issues and/or ideas are broken down into a great podcast.

    Fascinating conversations
Good to hear Cardiff back on long form interviews.

    Needs an identity
Had high hopes as a big Cardiff fan. But the description of the show doesn’t match the content of the show. It should be called…economics history and stuff. Feels like a class I would have to take as an Econ major to fill an elective requirement. I was hoping for something more like the old Freakonomics episodes before they started turning all…whatever they’ve turned into now (not good).
  • djnj428
    Quality, as expected
Not surprising that Cardiff’s new podcast is high quality. Not breaking any new ground, but in depth and thoughtful conversations on topics of interest. And his enthusiasm always shines through.

So good! Love the new show!
Cardiff had always been a rockstar with his work at NPR, and he’s shining with this new podcast! Found the conversation with Jerusalem Demsas about gentrification extremely eye-opening—have already listened to it twice and shared it with all my friends. Thank you for bringing these conversations into my life. Keep up all the stellar work!

    A perfect blend
Format is excellent; background and discussion segments makes for a nice flow. Content is detailed, not convoluted. I have always gravitated toward Cardiff’s energy and enthusiasm on Planet Money and The Indicator from NPR. One of the best economic podcasts out there right now.

    Master Host Mr. Garcia
Here as a loyal follower and fan of Cardiff Garcia, show does not disappoint. High level content and production.

    Great new podcast!
Cardiff is one of the best interviewers I've heard--always well-prepared and very good at re-explaining the guest's point on the spot to make it clearer. If you like high-production-value long-form interview podcasts with economists and social scientists, like Freakonomics or Hidden Brain, this is a great one for you.
  • diablo1971
    Cardiff leads the way
I loved his work on the Indicator and now that he has a larger canvas the work is even better. He doesn’t present the facts to fit a narrative but allows the facts to tell the story. I miss his form of journalism and I’m glad he’s back!
  • LppCo
    Great podcast
I could listen to Cardiff all day long. He’s smart and funny and can make any topic interesting and relatable.
  • HumbleBroski
Refreshingly long form conversations with fantastic guests.
The production and pacing of this show is so nice. I learn so much, and it is also just super chill. Cardiff is a great interviewer and his guests are truly top notch. Can’t recommend enough.

    Smart, fun, & informative
The new bazaar delivers discussions on interesting and important matters in economics. While smart and informative, the discussions remain fun and easy to digest. Nicely done Aimée and Cardiff.

    Fascinating and Conversational
I have really enjoyed the first two episodes of the New Bazaar! Cardiff does a great job of explaining economic idea in a way that’s easy to understand and shows the real-world impact. Plus, the New Bazaar focuses on fascinating topics. It’s a real treat!!

Like a tall, cool glass of smartness juice
This podcast is something to look forward to. Sometimes long-form can feel plodding or stretched out for the sake of long-form. But every second of New Bazaar has been interesting. A+
  • Omega996
    So far, so great!
I was a fan of The Indicator and Cardiff since it was first released, but I always wondered how Cardiff would do with a show that was more long-form. With The New Bazaar I don't have to wonder any longer. So far, so great. I look forward to hearing more interesting, broader views on economics.
  • Oxford Cactus
    Worth Subscribing!
When I listen to economic podcasts, I often feel like the guests and narratives are being engineered to defend an ideology or score partisan points, instead of focusing on trying to understand truth. I never felt that manipulation with this podcast. The “aggressively non partisan” tone was so refreshing. Thank you for focusing on understanding facts Vs scoring political points. I’m looking forward to more.
  • Chad Bown
    Amazing!
Cardiff Garcia and Aimee Keane are back and diving deep into important economic policy topics in a format that is clear and accessible. The first 4 mins of Episode #1 — expect the nuance — gave me goosebumps. Can’t wait!
  • JOPR4
