YanksmattKeep it up!The format of short episodes, about once a week, is great. The content is largely based on quotations of and discussion on writings of the ancient Roman stoics. I’ve been reading through those works for 6 months now and this podcast has been a great supplement to better understanding them!

Bobbyji13Very direct and informativeI have been listening to different podcasts about Stoicism and I find this one and Stoic Coffee break to be the best so far. The host is direct and explains everything very clearly. The content is very good. I recently listened to the host interview Donald Robertson about his book about Marcus Aurelius. He was a very good interview giving information about Marcus and Stoicism. Furthermore, I like is that the host does not try to market anything to the audience.

! ***** !***** ACCOLADES *****The intelligence, knowledge, & humanity of the host, Allan, sparkles throughout each episode. Allan illuminates Stoicism in a speaking voice that is precise, articulate, lyrical, & cadanced -- as in a poem. Each episode is a jewel: exquisitely crafted in its thematic design. Each episode is dense with meaning & gives reason for rumination. This podcast series enriches the mind, soul, heart, body, & spirit. Listening to each episode is like hearing a prose poem read aloud -- because it sounds literary & musical in its vocalized use of language. This podcast is worthy of your time & attention -- as it imparts guidance-for-thought to build our better selves. -- Respectfully, -- From an Appreciative Listener

Romy-oOne of the best Stoicism podcasts out thereI really enjoy Allan’s succinct, thoughtful guidance and teachings on Stoic philosophy. He had a knack for taking centuries old Stoic writings and principles and showing how they can perfectly be used by us today and timelessly really to help us be truly happy and at peace. I also appreciate his shout outs to @JonBrooks and his @TheStoicHandbook podcast and other content. I’m enjoying learning and improving with both Allan and Jon.

ArabicsmithA Great Crash Course and Regular RoutineSpeaking as someone who only recently stumbled onto Stoicism: Those new to Stoicism will encounter a veritable firehose of Internet info and a wide choice of online Stoic mentors/guides, each with their own focus and style. It’s easy to become overwhelmed. While I will naturally explore many sources as my nascent learning continues, I quickly settled on Allan and his excellent “What is Stoicism” podcast as my introductory guide to the philosophy. Over the course of a month, I listened to all 66 podcasts he’s produced to date, taking notes along the way. I complemented this strategy with an initial reading of Marcus Aurelious’s Meditations (Gregory Hays translation) and a commencement of daily journaling. I highly recommend What is Stoicism for the following reasons: 1. Pithy and to the point. A typical episode is 5-7 minutes, always well organized, purposeful, pragmatic, and oriented toward applied practice. 2. Allan’s calm and quiet delivery promotes full reflection and absorption of the simple yet profound lessons of Stoicism. It also builds confidence in both Stoicism as a quality “playbook for life” and in one’s ability to apply it to one’s own life. 3. Allan shares the sources of his own learning along the way, leading one to develop an informed list of next books to try. As a New Year begins, I’m grateful for discovering this gem of a podcast. I now look forward to new episodes and to exploring Allan’s daily micro meditations

InloveinUtahINSPIREDI’ve listened to many podcasts and even stoic podcasts before. Nothing has spoken to my soul like this podcast. I’ve fallen into a slump in life and every single topic has been about what I’ve become obsessed with lately.. my fears, my failures, my expectations for myself, my regrets, spending too much time wallowing in the past so that it continues to define me and my present and future, wishing away the present for some future unknown thing, allowing myself to be hostage to others’ judgements …. all have been addressed one after another. I love Allan. He’s reminded me of what gratitude does… how to let go of future fears that are robbing me of today. How to truly live. I owe him so much. Thank you Allan with all my heart for being such an inspired person willing to put such time and love and work into changing lives. ♥️
