Movement with Meklit Hadero

17

Movement is a podcast, radio series and live show that tells stories of global migration through music. Hosted by Ethiopian-American singer Meklit Hadero, the show is a meditation on the large-scale forces at play in individual lives. Issues of citizenship, identity, belonging, and borders are explored through the experiences of artists themselves: two brothers sharing one guitar, a daughter trying on her father’s shoes, the lineage of a drum, and the sounds of a grandmother’s backyard.

Loving this podcast, Thank you !
Thank you, Meklit for bringing music and sound to life with these thoughtful and engaging interviews!! Knowing the back story of an artist enables me to listen and appreciate their music on a whole other level, and it brings entirely new flavors and emotions out of their sounds! “Movement” reminds us that all music has a it’s own one of a kind journey, though influences and instincts, challenges and triumphs, and makes me want to hear the stories and journeys of all kinds of artists to appreciate their craft and expressions even more. Thank you for opening these deeper levels of appreciation to us all! 🙏🙏

Smart conversations about music and culture
Meklit is a warm and compelling interviewer, or really conversationalist. Insightful and entertaining conversations with musicians about their art and how their personal transnational histories shape the music they make.

    Storytelling brilliance
I always know I’ll be in for an immersive experience with Movement and look forward to each new episode. I’ve been moved to tears, to laughter and to my feet to dance. Meklit soulfully guides our journey together and her incredible guests share stories that transport us to the past, ground us in the present and illuminate the brilliant possibilities of the future. All in under 30 minutes! I love listening in the car with my kids and then going deeper after each episode to find more music and stories from the guest artists. Feels like entering a beautiful sensory portal each time.
