HaabøHigh quality & in depthI love the Enormocast, from the intro and self produced ads to the deep well of quests. Every episode has something special about it. Hopefully they are preserving this in the library of Congress, but I doubt it. Keep it up Kalous!

Carderock ClimberGood podcast on climbing lifeI'm an old listener, going back through all the old episodes. Loved the one with Barber and Clune, two climbers from my generation. As a climber of 40+ years and with about that many in the "industry" too it's fun to hear about what's going on behind the scenes. Jim Erickson episode was the best!

Roby3232AmazingTook me from an avid gym climber to someone setting up anchors and mock rappelling off hooks I put in my apartment walls. A very happy contributor to crag overcrowding and BD’s pockets
-
Tahoe DannyKeep coming backI don’t climb much anymore, but enormously always gets me back into it!!!

Iowa LiberalLiving vicariouslyI am a 72 year old, who lives in Iowa and doesn’t climb, but this is my favorite podcast. I have listened to most, if not all, of the episodes. The last episode #276 was so good it it motivated this 5 star review.

JC_843ExcellentAs only an infrequent rock climber and mountaineer, I just discovered Chris’ podcast, but it is a excellent. While his experience and personal knowledge of many of the climbs and ascents gives him a groundwork for the interviews, the relaxed format, rapport with the guests, and probing questions takes the podcast to a higher level. The interviewees are a blend of iconic and new climbers which makes the whole series an evolving body of work that covers much of the breadth of the climbing scene from straight up rock climbing to current alpinism. Great work.

former user 10000Enjoyed every minuteI’m new to this podcast and listened to a few during a long road trip. I enjoyed them and learned from them. Chris did a great job interviewing the esteemed climbers and leading them into conversations which gave me insights into who they were as people and what was important to them and what brought them to climbing. As a long time mountaineer and extreme hiker, I understand the drive it takes to pursue a dream and to keep pushing long after most have turned back. Thanks for letting us in to these very interesting people’s thoughts and positions regarding a sport to which they have dedicated so much. The conversations really made me think of my own journey.

Sharks Fan PhilThe OriginalWhat else can you say but the Enormocast is THE preeminent climbing podcast. Absolute classic with all the big names and plenty youve never heard of. Kalous just keeps doing it. Always gets me stoked to go climbing!

tiredoftryingtopickanicknamebinge worthy, consistently good story tellingDoing long form interviews is hard, doing them well, even harder and delivering something interesting? Most hard. Chris Kalous has been pulling that off for a long time and in the process, introducing us to a lot of interesting people who do more than climb, capturing the oral history of climbing, helping good stories get told, and bashing our pastime’s sillier notions just enough to be funny. It is the perfect podcast for binge listening when getting out isn’t option.
-
ChromecastPlease!Kudos to KalousTHE climbing podcast that dives into the soul of the sport with interviews of both climbing legands and campfire heroes. Story telling is the heart of human history and Kalous has his finger on the pulse with each and every interview.

paradiserisesWhat a climbing bum.How can anyone listen to this without wanting to listen to more or fall in Love with Chris, his voice , lack of hair and those he interviews. I’m writing this review and rating it with one star to capture the attention of those looking for something bad to be said about the podcast. Well, guess what, nothing bad to say hear. Only good vibes, much thanks and praise to be sprayed here. Gotcha! Thanks Chris for following your passion with this. With a job that allows me to listen to you for 8 hours a day, plus the 40 minutes of cycling in, it’s been a ride!
-
JoutrasjFavorite podcastChris brings on a variety of guests from different climbing eras, disciplines, and backgrounds. I always appreciate the usually easy, conversational interviews, as well as the occasional trip into difficult/sober territory. This podcast is about climbing, but it’s also about a lot more than climbing - it’s about the people that climb. Also the home-brewed ads are hilarious. Skwamaaaaaaa

elsenderoduroNMStill the Best Climbing PodcastThanks Chris for providing a platform for long form content about climbing. What makes this podcast stand out from most of the other climbing podcasts is that Chris has a lifetime of experience in the climbing world that enables him to contribute to the discussions and adds a level of depth that other podcasters can’t achieve. Chris is legit and his guests respond in kind. The podcasts are not only interesting, informative, and entertaining; they also provide a means of documenting aspects of climbing history that might otherwise be lost to time. There’s a lot of imitators out there but he’s still the best!

JenTeam“How can I make this about me?” - Chris KalousEvery guest that has something interesting is invariably interrupted with the host’s opinion, similar experiences (or lack thereof), and/or change of subject. Some truly incredible guests are forced to listen to the same stories, explanations and opinions that have been recounted dozens of times. Did you know, HE WAS THE FIRST CLIMBING PODCAST!!! Never miss an opportunity to FLEX!
-
Ryan Lee WoodThe best. Period. Can’t say enough about The Enormocast. I think one of my favorite parts of driving to the next crag in my rig over the last 4+ years is queuing up enough episodes to get me through the drive, no matter the length. It always gets the stoke to 100. I have to say, the Scott Franklin epidode is a dark horse for best ever. Thanks Kalous. Keep it up.

sryitstrueNarcissist holds audience hostage in inner monologueMight as well be the name of the show. Chris frequently overtalks his much more accomplished and interesting and HUMBLE guests. An especially cringey moment that showcased his overweaning ego occurred during the Janja Garnbret episode introduced Janja, saying that he was able to control his nervousness prior to interviewing her by reminding himself that the only difference between them was just that he was an outdoors climber and she was an indoors climber. Hard eye-roll here. Really, Chris? It didn't strike you that the major difference was that she was a world class climber with much harder outdoor sends than you have ever attempted? Basically, this is a man in love with himself who exhaustively brags about his climbing feats which are pretty mediocre compared to his guests, but due to his finding climbing prior to the much-griped about age of the gym, constantly demeans younger generations instead of recognizing their contributions to progressing the sport. Painful listen. He gets great guests, but they're held hostage too.

PCMB2GreatThe first and the beast!

InyungPChris Kalous interviews himself over the course of a decade.I play this game where I jump to any section of any episode and knock back a shot if the guest is actually speaking. I have been sober for over 10 years.

The double standard“Old man shakes fist at cloud”I’ve tried several times to give this podcast another chance and it consistently falls flat. If you want to listen to a lot of out if touch ranting centered entirely on The Creek and The Valley- this one’s for you. The TAPS episode this year was so bad I had to just turn it off. Read the room. Your jokes about getting cancelled are immature and pointless. You’re not edgy- your out of touch. It’s really obvious you WILL ALWAYS center white male voices in climbing. Your interviews with Black climbers are poorly executed and the tone is just weird. The fact that you have to keep “promising to put more women” on the podcast says everything I need to know. No thanks. Honestly I’m bummed Sportiva even supports this trash. There are so many other people with interesting things to say- but I guess the loudest white male voices always rise to the top. P.s. I’ll never forget when you opened the live show in the NRG at the classic and proceeded to insult everyone present with stereotypical WV jokes. Anyone with the gall to insult his hosts to their faces isn’t someone worth listening to.
-
forEmmettGreat stuffI really enjoy these episodes!! Chris is a great interviewer and he makes his guests the stars of the show. Loved Jay Smith interview (no ego there). Love anything with John Long. Croft, O’Neill, were all my favs. Love to hear you sit down with Chouinard and maybe Steve Gerbeding. Steve out up more A5 routes on El Cap than anyone. He’s a super cool guy (humble)
-
king batEnormodomeChris really asks some good questions in his interviews, as well as mixing in a fair bit of humor. I can’t believe it took me so long to listen. Keep up the great work Kalous!!
-
SprunginatorI hate Netflix culture, but totally binge worthyI am a house painter by trade and a climber just like Kalous, and have ample time to listen to all the episodes while working. There are two podcasts that I listen to currently, The Enormocast and the Runout. I have listened to many different podcasts for 5 years minimum, it’s odd the others just don’t cut it. Enough said. Thank you Chris.

MoonDog33Better than Honnold’s PodcastKalous has been dropping climbing podcasts since before Hon Solo could drink, and will be doing them long after Alex No Hands falls free soloing snake dike (jk I love you academy award winning, Alex Honnold)
-
NotallowedtotalkI’m up to #134I love the jokes in the intro! Great show! Listen most days at work. Thanks for making it!
-
SpringsyetiSend it!What else can you say. Love it.
-
Alec Lasham TaylorRoom for improvementThis is a sometimes decent podcast if the guest carries the interview, and there aren’t too many interruptions from the host. Chris Kalous too often shoves his unsolicited opinions into the conversation in a very condescending way, especially when it comes to current events. For the most part I’m not interested in hearing geopolitical analysis from guys who speak like they just took a bong rip.
-
MaassebeansSolid use of auditory timeI appreciate the guests, the self assured vibe of Kalous, the in depth questions and the overall quality of the audio. I also enjoy Totally Deep. You are the man Kalous! Thanks for the splitter podcasts!
-
samyaskorUghI’ve listened to this podcast on and off for years, mostly because I want to hear from his guests but I’m finally quitting for reals. Can’t stand the 10min plus of ads at the beginning and the guy always interrupts and talks over guests. Also I couldn’t stand the tone of the most recent episode. He sounded super disrespectful of deceased climbers and it just didn’t feel like ear candy unless you’re also a middle aged dude... I was surprised to see so many great reviews though. I tried so hard to like this podcast.
-
kshriajaldbrKalous is my idolThis podcast is the bomb.
-
dmulliThe bestThe climbing podcast to measure all other climbing podcasts against. Kalous you have been and continue to do an excellent job. Been listening since maybe the 30’s and no signs of slowing! Keep ‘em coming please!
-
TzwebBest podcast everI don’t know if you’ve ever asked for a review but you’re getting one. I’ve listened to every episode of this podcast in the last year since getting into climbing and have to say this is one of the best interview shows on the Internets. Thank you so much for making this podcast and finding the most interesting people to talk with.
-
levigoldmanHas changed climbing culture for the betterWhen I first started it seemed everyone was a sandbagging curmudgeon. Thanks to a new influx of sharing and inclusiveness we can all come to understand our community and climb harder too. This podcast is part of that trend, maybe even one of the driving forces, so I’m pretty psyched on it. Check your knot. :)
-
kvbaGreat!I drive alone in the desert alot, and I listen to a handful of podcasts, but this one is the best! Hilarious and insightful, even Chris's homemade advertisements are funny. It's worth a listen for sure. Improve your style and click subscribe.
-
J*DivaThank you!One of my climbing buddies and mentors introduced me to this podcast. This is what we listen to on our way to and from the crags. As a new climber, it’s been really informative to hear about a variety of experiences and learn a bit about the history of the sport. Due to the pandemic and quarantine, I started from the beginning recently and it’s been quite an adventure.

HobboattackA most informative and infallible podcast.Dr. Kalous is surely one of the best opinionists of our time. For there is no road he shies from traveling, no path he does not plod, no track he does not trek, and no stupendous enormo-dome too stuperfluous to scale. Dr. Kalous is no scaredy cat. He asks the tough questions and battens down the hatches for the flying hexes to come. (I must say this makes for quite an enjoyable listening experience, as the listener may find solace knowing that our humble narrator is a real journalist.) So all in all, I must say that Sir. Christ Kalous does indeed surely do the most bestest best of podcasts on this here hurtling ball of water, flora, and Jah’s fauna. For you the listener need not read more, as your little bitty dome already now knows that this podcast: Be Bitchin.
-
Mr. Flip FlopThanks ChrisThis podcast keeps the magic alive for me. Sometimes the front range climbing culture gets me down, and then I listen to the Enormocast and remember that climbing isn’t all about wearing bright yellow pants and showing off rippling back muscles. Humility, authenticity, and genuine love for climbing and it’s people shine through these interviews. The Enormocast reminds me why I fell in love with climbing. Thanks Chris.
-
coywolf37After seven years off the rockThis went straight to the heart. The Enormocast humanizes the heroic and mythologizes the everyday pleasures of roping up. It also helped me kick a pretty shameful daisy chain habit. Thoughtful, hilarious and inspiring.
-
shayleebennettThis podcast is the bees kneesGot me through many a road trip. Thanks Kalous!
-
listenmore777Latest Podcast with Dru MackI really enjoyed your latest podcast with Dru Mack. He was so honest, vulnerable, and wise. I really appreciated it. Thank you!

AlexjbondThe bestI listen to a lot of podcasts about outdoor sports and adventure, and this is the best. This is a MUST listen for anyone who loves outdoor adventure, climbing or not.

flat lands climberBest climbing podcastI’ve been listening for years now and it never gets old.
-
_BenoblestBest climbing podcastAlways great guests and content. I literally listen to this all the time. Didn’t start until about 6 months ago but I’m slowly catching up on all the old ones. This is for sure my favorite non training specific climbing podcast. Thanks Chris!
-
PaulWolf1Best climbing podcast.A sonic tour of the climbing world, almost a decade now and still going strong.
-
Shiver BivyDoses of StokeThat's what each episode is. A nice dose of pump up the jam to get your mental state right for planning adventures. If you're not planning adventures, listen to this and you'll start. Great job on the podcast! It's seriously good and makes the day better.
-
Choss MonkeyHoly HexesI️ love this pod! The Enormocast is a must for anyone who climbs, or is getting into climbing. Chris brings an excitement and level of knowledge to the show that I’ve never seen (heard, I️ guess) on any other podcasts. A must listen.
-
ShkotekBest podcast everIf you climb you must listen to this podcast. It’s original and authentic. Something that’s really hard to find in the digital landscape. Keep up the great work!
-
SwivotGreat PodAs a beginner and relative newbie, I love hearing the stories and banter of some core climbers! Love the Pod and I listen to it whenever I want to get psyched on climbing. Thank Chris
-
So Cal hikerGreat podcastThis is a great podcast. Chris is a great interviewer. These are and will amount to an important collection of interviews that cover the inception of mountaineering and the people who developed the sport and lifestyle as well as its evolution to what it is today. Excellent body of work.
-
Tyler MeesterA true gem!I love the stories shared in this podcast, I can usually count on getting psyched, getting a good laugh, or both. Also, Chris is amazing at making ads funny to listen to, might be the only ads I look forward to hearing - usually I skip past them on other podcasts.
-
dkineGreat for the car...Or the campfire... I drive a lot and really enjoy the content and perspective in this podcast. Chris’ knowledge and history with climbing bring a unique “old school” perspective to his material.
