Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast

3,669
TV & Film #130

Comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried, a man Stephen King once called “a national treasure,” talks with the show business legends, icons and behind-the-scenes talents who shaped his childhood and influenced his comedy. Along with co-host and fellow pop culture fanatic Frank Santopadre, Gilbert is joined by comics, actors, musicians, talk show hosts, writers and other eyewitnesses to Hollywood history, including Bruce Dern, Chevy Chase, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Adam West, Steve Buscemi, Micky Dolenz, Jim Gaffigan, Judd Apatow and DOZENS more, for a funny, frenetic, fly-on-the-wall look at showbiz then and now (but mostly then.) Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast was named "Best Podcast of 2015" by the Village Voice and one of iTunes' "Best of 2014." It has been featured in Rolling Stone, Wired and the Los Angeles Times.

    We Miss You Gil
The last of his breed. Thanks to Frank and Daria for keeping the porch light on and keeping him alive on podcasts.

    The One and Only
We are fortunate that so much of motion picture and television history is documented for posterity. The stories directly from the mouths of those who were there. Nothing tickles me more than listening to Gilbert’s laugh. Frank is the perfect straight man to Gilbert’s antics. So thankful to Frank and the crew for reinvigorating Gilbert just years before his untimely death. Special mention to Gilbert’s wonderful wife Dara. Her love and patience with Gilbert made all the difference.

    Amazing Podcast Indeed!
I still listen because no one can make me laugh like Gilbert. I enjoyed the friendship he had with Frank my fellow kid from Queens. I love when Gilbert sings and does his great impressions!

    Colossally Missed 😢
This podcast brought me such joy, laughs and knowledge of “old” Hollywood times. Wish Frank would carry on the torch and keep the orange wedges flying. Cheers!

    Posthumorously fabulous
I have loved Gilbert’s irreverent sense of humor since I was a kid. I started listening to this wonderful podcast when he was alive (I was late to it) and since he left us I resolved to start at episode 1 and listen to all of them in order. Frank is the perfect eminently replaceable co-host and their chemistry is infectious. I truly enjoy getting to know so many titans of “old Hollywood,” but what I love best is continuing to get to know Gilbert. A singular talent and a lovable sentimental soul with the roughest of exteriors. My favorite combination. And if you believe that I’ve got a bridge to sell you…

    Deeply Missed
I’ve been relistening to the podcast to stay away from politics and current events and it’s amazing how good some of these interviews were. Mostly due to Frank’s research, but occasionally Gilbert came through with an amazing impression or a story about an alleged antisemite. Love the mini episodes too. Frank, I wish you would entertain starting a similar show, these stories are significant and worthy of being heard

Thank you for keeping Gilbert Gottfried alive through his Amazing Colossal Podcasts, along with Frank Santopadre and all of his amazing guests. I very much enjoy listening to them and reliving the past through this medium. I hope Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcasts remain available for as long as I am on this planet. Mark H

    The Best
Thank you Frank, the late , great Gilbert, Dara, and everyone involved in this podcast! Whenever I’m feeling less than good, your podcast is a very funny, informative, joyful episode ( unless Gilbert mentions something about something or someone catching fire…) that let’s all of of us see behind the curtain of Show Biz ( movies, tv, or otherwise ) and all that went on. Just , thanks.😊

    👏👏
His costar is the real gem here. Frank is knowledgeable & very entertaining. Great duo. I’m listening to reruns sadly but still enjoy it quite a bit.

    If only
I can only imagine how tickled Gilbert would be if he knew there would be an ad for tampons at the beginning of his encore podcast episodes. Will never stop listening!

    Gilbert Lives On
Losing Gilbert was terribly difficult for fans and those of us who looked forward to every new episode with Frank. The duo was unbeatable with their ability to recall minutia I assumed only I remembered. We are fortunate to have these episodes for eternity and can laugh again as Gilbert sings and cracks jokes and so many amazing guests regal us with wonderful stories. For anyone who loves well, laughter, movies, TV and music, this is the podcast for you. Every episode brings the funny. We love you Gilbert, and you too Frank. Thanks for so much.

    Gilbert and Frank Rock
Nothing but laughter and insight provided here. So much fun to listen to each and every episode. The depth of Hollywood film knowledge to Gilberts countless impressions. Simply amazing. Thank you.

    Still my Favorite
I’m sad that Gilbert is gone but thankful that he left us countless hours of entertainment and humor. Many thanks to Frank for guiding the ship and bringing it home for us.

Lots of good moments but lots missed
Overall some great interviews but beware there’s also lots of vulgarity. A lot of enjoyable and funny parts but many more are spoiled by Gilbert’s propensity to interrupt with his thoughts or impressions or an attempt at humor. He’d hit some but he missed many more. And heaven forbid when he sang—a real turnoff. But his senile Groucho is great.

    The Best!
This is absolutely the best podcast ever! We are so blessed to have these stories. Godspeed, Gilbert!
  • jimmysyein
    Very good, but
I LOVE Gilbert and Frank! I love the podcast! The only drawback is that occasionally they have a “B-“ list guest, and treat them very well, as you always should with a guest. However, there are times that I wonder what the “no holds barred” Gilbert that we’ve come to know over the many years, REALLY feels about that guest.

    Chock Full of Laughs
A long story short. I originally listened due to a specific guest. I found it very entertaining, so I added the show to my subscription. Absolutely fell in love with the style and the classic artists and stars of yesterday. Then the sudden blow when Gilbert suddenly passed away. I have since decided to go all the way back to the first podcast and listen to them all in order! Truly the funniest podcast out there. Belly Laughs are plentiful. We need to convince Frank to carry on with the format, because a lot of these stars are long forgotten or sadly now appearing in Heaven.

    I love your show
One of the best podcasts there ever was. Found you by listening to hilarious podcast Community News by Paul and Sasha. They love your show. Wish you all had done one together. Brilliant and funny minds.

    Laughter is the Best Medicine!
If you’re a fan of old movies, TV and comedy, this show is a must! Even when you think you don’t know the guest, you will be fascinated with the back stories. And of course, the hilarious Gilbert! His wit is unbelievable and his laugh is contagious! One of my favorite podcasts! Highly recommended!

One of the beat podcasts ever
This podcast truly is amazing and colossal. The knowledge and humor Gilbert (RIP) and Frank bring is astounding. I hope to make it through all the episodes eventually. My only critique is that there will be no more new episodes 😢

A lovely way to remember Gilbert
I watched Gilbert on Up all night as a kid and loved his personality when I saw him on Tv. When I finally got Howard Stern on radio in th e 90’s listening to Gilbert and Howard was the best! Gilbert’s impressions are hilarious and like many his Bella Lagosi and Old Groucho are amazing. Great show!

    GGACP
The hosts, Gilbert Gottfried and Frank Santopadre, consistently demonstrate their knowledge of “the showbiz.” Gilbert’s laugh is otherworldly and is infectious. An encore presentation of GGACP is still an hysteric inducing adventure. Gilbert’s imitation skills are extraordinary. Listen to his Tony Curtis, Peter Lorre, or Jerry Lewis. Sit back and have multiple chuckles🤭

    Twelve Days of Christmas 2019
Thank you Frank. The greatest, amazingly idiotic, fun, version of Twelve Days..brought me joy. An incredibly funny Christmas show.

    Still got it
Still the funniest podcast that keeps the legends alive. Thank you, Frank. We love you dearly
  • Chitown Jamie
    Amazing Show
Gilbert is preserving Hollywood movies and comedy with great interviews, making older stars more interesting with funny, interesting, touching and raunchy stories. Making it interesting for younger audiences. It gets dirty and sometimes salacious. Now hoping Frank can find a good host or guest hosts to partner up with to keep the magic going… Jeremy

    Gilbert and Frank
Gilbert and Frank’s love for old movies and actors is just the beginning of this amazing podcast. I’m glad it’s still going so I can hear Gilbert laughing and singing as well as Frank’s vast knowledge on all things movies. This podcast continues to be a highlight in my day, listening to two pals delighting in hanging out, chatting, laughing and having a good time and inviting the listener to be part of it too.

    Hooked!
I just love this show. Frank Santopadre is a brilliant encyclopedia of showbiz history, and Gilbert… is Gilbert. I miss him so much. No person has made me laugh longer and louder than Mr. Gottfried. I regret I didn’t know of this show when he was alive, but, thank god, I have all these hours preserved to listen to now.

And Now, For Something Completely Different
Co-host Frank Santipadre, in an interview on another podcast, said their goal was to get guests that our current generation might not be familiar with, and who had a lot of history before they passed (along with many who are part of the current generation, of course),which is a terrific idea-but who knew that one of those people they'd need to rush to memorialize was host Gilbert Gottfried himself? So many priceless memories and moments we wouldn't have otherwise had. Oddly, one of the episodes I've laughed the hardest at so far was Death Songs of the 70s, part 1, where Gilbert sang Patches, OMG, what a wicked mimic! The Alan Thicke/Shecky Green episode is one I've listened to several times and lol like crazy! It informs, touches you, and of course makes you laugh-please carry on with this, it's different without Gilbert but Frank has the knowledge and passion for entertainment-music, film, tv-to carry this show, for sure! RIP Gilbert!

I enjoy this podcast so much. Please let us have more. I would love to hear the Ron Delsener episode. But pretty much, I’m happy and grateful that we get any. Thank you to Frank and God bless Gilbert. What a terrible loss.

    So sad it’s over…
This is by far one of my favorite podcasts. The wealth of knowledge Frank and Gilbert have about the Golden Age of movies and television is mind boggling. And the guests are amazing! This podcast cemented my love of classic movies and TV. Thank you for a life changing and often a laugh out loud experience.

    BPE (BEST PODCAST EVER).
RIP Mr Gottfried. 😞 I was a delivery driver who drove on average 250-300 miles a day. Gilbert and Frank and the guests kept me entertained during those long days. I travel quite a bit now and I still listen (and will keep listening) to the podcasts as long as they are available! “Thanks for the memories” Gilbert and Frank! God Bless!

    One of a Kind
I should have written this sooner but like so many of us, I tend to put things off and then have reason to regret it.This podcast carried me through many a tough time as I traveled away from my family working to keep paying the bills. Even though I never met either of them, listening to Frank and Gilbert felt like hanging out with old friends talking about many of the things “these kids today” missed out on. I’m truly crushed Gilbert has left us far too soon and my heart goes out to his family and Frank. Frank - I truly hope you will continue the podcast. While Gilbert can never be replaced you were certainly just as vital to the success of the podcast as he was. Please keep it going, your insights were always both fascinating and entertaining. Thanks to both of you for helping me enjoy the past when the present wasn’t always so much fun.

    Thank you
Frank - thank you so much. God bless you and Gilbert’s family as well. Your podcast brought me so much laughs and happiness. This show had to have a glue guy to get it off the ground. You did it. And besides, you are great Frank. Thank you, Chris E. I cry with you yet I’m still smiling.
